Amba's signature black tea made using only one-leaf-and-bud

Amba Estate’s Hand-Rolled Tippy Golden Orange Pekoe (TGOP) is a distinguished black tea originating from the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. This tea is meticulously crafted using traditional methods, where skilled artisans hand-pluck a single bud and one leaf, then hand-roll and naturally oxidise the leaves. This artisanal approach results in a tea that is both unique and reflective of its terroir .

After withering, the same ladies who plucked the leaves roll the leaf by hand, half-a-kilo at a time. The leaves are then oxidised and dried in a biomass dryer. The dry leaf has a fruit,
toffee and citrus fragrance.

Tasting Notes

The TGOP offers a complex and smooth flavour profile. Expect enticing notes of maple syrup and citrus, accompanied by a pleasant thickness and a lingering astringency that balances beautifully. The liquor presents a mid-copper gold hue, with aromatic hints of dried fruit, sweet meadow grass and a touch of classic Uva wintergreen. This tea is best enjoyed plain, without milk, to fully appreciate its nuanced flavours.

Black teas are generally known for their health benefits. They are rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Black tea consumption has been associated with improved heart health, better digestion and enhanced mental alertness. The natural compounds in black tea may also support immune function and reduce inflammation.
